Dr. Amarjot Singh, a reputed alumnus, gave an exceptional speech on intelligent surveillance system in a talk conducted by EEA on the 4th of October. In his talk, he explained briefly about each of its applications, and stated that the intelligent surveillance systems are capable of recognizing faces and distinguish body features; he also emphasized on its ability to capture the underlying features that don’t change with age.
Detection of violence in crowds by gestures, body movements is another important application. The system can even do lip-reading. It is capable of noting a person’s speech, and highlighting predefined words. Countries like Nigeria, Syria and China have started using such surveillance systems.
